Aimed at all types of disabilities, proprioceptive gymnastics is particularly suitable for autistic individuals.
A specially designed course works on balance and interaction between people with disabilities and able-bodied children to increase self-esteem.
It takes place every Saturday afternoon at the Racchetti Gymnasium in Sondrio from 14.30 to 16.30.
The realisation of this project in our area was made possible thanks to the support of Anffas Seregno: together we devised a protocol that allows autistic children to practise PEC gymnastics in the company of the three-year students of a high school in Seregno, so that their pupils have an extra stimulus during the gymnastic activity.
If, on the one hand, students with ASDs have to constantly practise in order to acquire and apply the basic skills to interact with peers on a daily basis, on the other hand, the ‘normal’ ones are blocked by not knowing what to say and how to say it. This difficulty belongs to everyone, indiscriminately, but not everyone manages to overcome it.
This is a path of enhancement for the person with ASD; through gymnastic activity in the gymnasium, upstream of which there is a rigorous and scientific customised didactic planning based on the IEP, it encourages and reinforces in each pupil the acquisition of basic social skills in non-school environments.
